The Community Outreach Committee met earlier this month to gather ideas for the 2009-2010 school year. The ideas listed below include successful activities from last school year and possible new activities for this school year.
- Children’s Activities – Halloween, Christmas, and Easter activities will offered this year. Proceeds from these events will benefit local charities.
- Studio Art students are hosting a show at Starbucks beginning in November to raise money for Auburn Youth and Family Services.
- A district-wide art show is being planned for the 2009-2010 school year.
- Community members who have generously donated to Auburn High School will once again receive free admission tickets to all home basketball games.
- The Ronald E. Prouty Media Center, in conjunction with Barnes and Noble, will be sponsoring a Book Fair in March.
- National Honor Society students will be available to rake and shovel for local senior citizens.
- Student Council is sponsoring an event called Rachel’s Challenge, an organization which promotes kindness.
- Senior Citizen Prom
- Community-wide Homecoming for 2010-2011 (Whole community event, tents , moon bounces, parade, dunk tanks, outside vendors, etc.)
- Movie Night in the auditorium
- Game previews in the auditorium
- Turkey Run/Drop 5k for Thanksgiving with proceeds to benefit the local charities
- Health Fair (educational booths including fire and police departments)
- Science Fair at night
The Halloween Haunted House for Community children will take place on October 29 from 3:30 -5:30 on the first floor of the High School. Activities in the cafeteria are free and open to any child and accompanying parent, refreshments will be served there as well.There will be a charge of $3.00 for the Haunted Hall but children may visit it as many times as they wish. Proceeds will go to fund community service activities. Flyers will be sent out to the local elementary schools soon.
What a wonderful event for the children of our community! This year they added a haunted hall which was great! My daughter had a great time and enjoyed interacting with the older students from our Student Council who made the children feel special. Great job!
